You didn't say what level YOU are, so I couldn't tell you for sure. I'd try around Kryta somewhere, if that doesn't work for you head to the Northern Shiverpeaks for level 10's and such. Since you said you aren't good at soloing, I'll just leave out the obvious places like the desert.

Remember, your pet will level up even when he's dead.

Good luck.

When I started my R/W char i took my Lynx along to get leveled with me when I was getting power levelled and the leveller said it was cool when i asked, so theres always the option to get your pet power levelled.

Still thats fairly expensive and doesnt really answer your question, do you have factions or just prophecies?

The best place in prophecies I can handle with my ranger (and although i have a few lvl 20's im a noob at heart) is farming the mergoyle wavebreakers from gates of Kryta, theres 3 per group and fairly simple to handle

Basically dont enter the mission but exit the misson into scoundrels rise.
Or you could try farming the Minotaurs outside ice tooth cave
Hope it helps a bit

I have a question myself:
Does having a pet with you affect the amount of XP you get from combat in the same way bringing henches with you does?

[EDIT] Kane, the pet will level up when hes dead? I didnt know that, thanks very much

For leveling a pet go to sorrows furnace. Bring a few cheap scrolls and you can get more by trading stones for scrolls inside. Plus the Minion Masters will love you. Your pet will be a level 20 in a day or two depending on the time you put in to it. If your primary is a ranger get into a Barrage/pet group and level away. Tombs is good too for a ranger primary looking to level a pet. If its your secondary profession stick to high level missions where ever Your primary is needed alot. I tend to play where I am needed and can get a quick pug group instead of somewhere where it takes 1 hour to get in a group.

EDIT: there is no need to solo if your not wanting to.

There are a couple of things you could do, and they all depend on what evolutionary scale you want your pet to follow.

If you don't care about damage or anything, and you just want it to level up, take it to high-level areas like Tombs or Sorrow's Furnace. It'll die a LOT, taking down the Hearty evolutionary path. But, this is one of the easiest ways to level because pets, like players, get xp while dead.

If you want to go down the Dire path (+damage, -Health), then develop a beastmaster build and use it on enemies close to the pet's level. The less damage it takes, the better. The more damage it does, the better. Note that this will cause the leveing process to take quite a while.

For Elder, well I can't help you there, but the pet needs to take and deal quite a bit of damage, I think.
